Meet Our Instructors
Mike Schield
Director of Instruction, PGA
A Wisconsin native who grew up in the game of golf and attended Methodist University’s famed PGA PGM Program, Schield’s golf career spans the globe. Mike joined X-Golf Kalamazoo at its inception in 2018, after completing 9 years abroad in Southern China where he held various roles including the Head Instructor position at the world’s largest golf course and golf academy, the Mission Hills Golf Club and Golf Academy. Mike Specializes in Elite Junior Golf Development and is the Head Girls Golf Coach at Kalamazoo Christian High School.
Matt Michalak
Instructor, PGA
Matt Michalak joins us from Central Ohio and has lived in Michigan for the past eight years. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky Universities’ PGM Program and attained PGA Membership in 2017. Matt has worked as the Head Golf Professional at Stoatin Brae Golf Club (2017-2022) and Arcadia Bluffs (2023-2024) before returning to Southwest Michigan to X-Golf Kalamazoo. Matt has a great wealth of knowledge of the game to teach a variety of students, from the beginning players to advanced golfers, alike. Playing golf for over 20 years, he understands what it takes to play the game well and can also align this knowledge to a specific players needs and goals.

Absolutely! Our goal is to encourage new players to the game. Please advise when you book that you are a beginner and we can arrange to spend a little extra time with you. You can also book your first time at an X-Golf with a PGA teaching professional to go through the fundamentals of holding clubs to the basic swing.
Yes, we encourage players to bring their own clubs, though rental clubs are available.
The fee is for the simulator time, regardless of how many people are playing and it is not per person. Each individual can finish 18 holes in about one hour (or two people can play 9 holes each in about one hour). If you add more people it will take 1 hour per person added to play 18 holes.
No need, the simulator has its own tee built into the system…plus it collects and tees the balls automatically.
Yes, all locations have rentals. Check with your preferred location on pricing.
Yes. We welcome children of all ages.
Generally it takes 1 hour for an individual player to play 18 holes. If you have more than one player you may want to book an additional hour for each player in your group, but skill level can have an effect on pace of play.
Booking a tee time is highly recommended either online or calling your preferred location. Most X-Golf locations frequently sell out during busy times/weekends.
Gift cards are available and can be purchased at the preferred location or digitally online.
Golf shoes with soft spikes only are allowed (please make sure they are clean) but tennis shoes work great on the artificial turf, as well.
No we supply the golf balls and the automatic tee system.
